Description

This ABA form piece was inspired by the ageless children’s taunt of “Nanny Nanny Boo Boo” with the A Section melody capitalizing on the Major Scale degrees of 5, 3, 6, 5, 3 or So, Mi, La, So, Mi. Simultaneously, the left hand accompaniment utilizes a twisting and turning of the Major and minor sixth. The rhythmic intrigue of this piece is driven by the changing meter that fluctuates between 5/8. 6/8 and 7/8. The mysterious B section faces some of our childhood fears like “monsters” in the closet, with the left hand ominous melody accompanied by the right hand ostinato of an open fifth.
